The wedding – part 1

This post has been in the back of my head for almost a week now. So many things has been in the way, like the dry rot we have in our bathroom and the shower looking a lot like a forensic team has been in there with their white plastic sheets, you know like you see in all those crime TV series. Uncertainty about where we’ll be in a few weeks time didn’t help either. We need to move out while our landlord deal with the entire floor in or bathroom, and if we’re unlucky tear down a few walls and built them up again. Not so very good. 

On a happier note I thought I’d tell you about what we did in Sweden in April/May this year. It was in many ways the start of the most intensive planning period for our wedding. We visited the venue and I started making my dress together with my Mother. We also got the whole paper circus going when we submitted all the legal papers to the Swedish authorities. Quite important two months they were. 

I flew out a week before James to start the dress making. We needed to do a lot of changes to the vintage pattern I’d bought and I was a bit to chicken to cut up the fabric when the time came. Mom however was not! Before we left we had a good start for a finished dress though... 

The view from the outdoor venue was nicer then I remembered it, a bit gray in early Swedish spring but we knew that with summer around the corner it would be beautiful in July. The reception was to be held a stone’s throw away in an adjoining community hall. Of course we could have a proper look inside. It’s very Swedish and typical this specific area of Sweden. We felt reassured and happy with it and could start the decoration planning for real after that visit.

A little sign of life and a wonderful bouquet

So here we are. I’m a wife. Today a rather grumpy version of a wife. (Another water leak, this time pretty serious, and a reluctant landlord do not go well together. Let’s not talk about it shall we?) We’ve kind of settled down again after all the wedding things and our honeymoon. I’ve got a part time job as a nanny of all things. I get to speak Swedish which is good, I were almost forgetting my first language. Seriously, I’m not kidding there. I still struggle remembering some words in Swedish just as I do a lot in English. It can get rather frustrating sometimes not speaking any language properly but still good enough.

My plan is to try an update you about all those wedding crafts and bits and pieces that I, and others like my Mother, have been doing the last 6 months. Everything from the dress to decorations. There are some things already up on my swinglish blog but in a rather random fashion. I thought I’d give you the proper narrative here starting in the next few days. I need to run off to work in a little and have lunch before. Mean while this is my wedding bouquet that my very talented sister put together for me. Nice huh?

Singing swinglish updates

I’ve done some sporadic updating on my Swedish blog lately. Since I don’t really have time for both blogs at the moment and I have a lot more readers on the Swinglish one you will find updates there. So for now, head over there and have a look. There are some nice things lurking around. Almost all posts have an English translation section (looking something like this), just scroll down in each post and you’ll find it. Today is J’s birthday and we will celebrate with homemade layer cake tonight. Let’s just hope the cake turned out tasty!!

I's oh, so quiet!

The past weeks have been fairly hectic and mostly I’ve been feeling like the expression on this several year old painted self portrait. However, looking at this picture kind of makes me want to paint again. Perhaps I will paint some after the wedding... we’ll see. Meantime, this blog will probably stay a little neglected since most of what I do I can’t show you yet. But oh, I wish I could...

Wedding craft projects

Here’s a quick update for you! I’m wading through wedding related craft projects, things I really can’t show you yet. Like the things in the photos or the cake toppers which make me giggle a bit. There are headbands for the bridesmaids and me on top of organising a lot of people back in Sweden. In between things I’m baking cakes for the fun of it and working slowly on a hand stitched patchwork. It works as a break from all the wedding hysteria and who’s ever said no to cake? James work colleges sure never have and I think they quite like the idea of me making cakes for them.

James birthday is coming up soon too and for once I’m a little lost for gift ideas. Anyone got good tips? He got everything he needs, the worst kind you know, to think up gifts for. I’ll make him a cake for sure but there must be something else out there that would be a great gift too.
