The North London Swedish School

If you’ve read my about page you know I’m Swedish. Not that it matters much most days it’s just that sometimes you get homesick and miss your first language. There is something very nice about understanding without effort, the melody being very familiar and soothing. There’s lots of Scandinavians in London and many of them have met English partners just like me. James Swedish is everything but brilliant so to get some chatter in my native tongue I spend time with a good Swedish friend I have here in London from time to time. However if you live here with your partner and have children it is not so obvious for the children to learn Swedish (or any other Scandinavian language). I was quite glad when I stumbled over a great initiative called the North London Swedish School, it’s a parent driven charity with a Saturday school for Swedish/English spoken children here in London. And guess what? They have asked me to supply teach for them some weekends this term! And the best is yet to come, I’ve been asked to think of arty/crafty activities on themes they can do next semester! Do you have any suggestions on themes? I’m thinking season wise already but some other nice ones would be fun too.

Ps. The Dala horse was a commissioned pin cushion I made a year and a half ago...

My cards are here!

Turned out I didn’t have to wait a whole week for my cards to arrive. I actually got them a couple of days ago now but I’ve been volunteering and haven’t had a chance to photograph them until today. The delivery was quick I have to say and the packaging nice. The cards in themselves are cute; however, in hindsight I should have used more colourful pictures for all the cards. At least I know until next time. What do you think?

Mini cards for me!

The other day I ordered some business cards, or rather mini-cards as the company called them. I’m all anticipation now! Can’t wait to see how they turn out. There will be five different designs, both colourful and a little more sombre ones. However I have to wait another week before they will be here... oh patience. Will tell you how I like them and show you when I get them!

Masquerade Wedding

Hello all you lovely folks! In a couple of weeks we’ve been invited to a wedding with a masquerade theme. Naturally I’m making some simple masks. The purple one is for me and is the only one I haven’t finished yet. The other two are for James and his dad.

They are all made from recycled materials, James old jeans, a piece of fabric from a bag project from long ago and some lace from some old clothing I had ages ago. I might add some little beads on my mask or perhaps some sequins. James and his dad didn’t want anything “over the top” as they put it so there’re only a few sequins as decoration on theirs. How do you like them?

Autumn leaves

This week James and I have started our adventure to a healthier life with running sessions. Yes, running sessions! I wouldn’t believe it of myself unless I knew it to be very necessary for my wellbeing. Together with iron and vitamin-D tablets I’ve started my struggle for a less tired existence. Let’s just hope we’ll be able to keep it up.
Anyhow, this little card cover/card purse/card holder thing is made from some nice wool fabric with some of my natural dyed cotton appliquéd with leaf embroideries. Kind of autumn like don’t you think? It’s closed with a vintage button on the back. The colour is slightly lighter in reality than on the pictures though. This together with the buttons below will be up on Etsy before the week end. That is my plan anyway.

Embroidered Buttons

The last week’s heat wave has kept me away from my computer (other than to answer an odd email or two). However the warmth didn’t keep me away from my craft corner. The warming things have to wait a little though. Nonetheless, what do you think about these embroidered buttons I made from one of my onion dyed cotton fabrics? I’ve been thinking about doing some other embroidered buttons but feel a little at a lost on what to embroider on them. I quite like the leaf design but some variation would be nice don’t you think?
